Thanks to the collaboration and information exchange with the Directorate General for Territorial Surveillance of the Kingdom of Morocco (DGST), the Guardia Civil has managed to foil the introduction of a significant amount of drugs into Spanish territory, specifically on the island of Fuerteventura.
The operation, carried out during the night of December 10, 2025, concluded with the seizure of 877 kilograms of hashish, the arrest of three people, and the confiscation of several vehicles and a semi-rigid boat used to transport the narcotic substance.
The operation is part of Operation 'Puerto Nuevo', carried out by different Civil Guard units, including the Judicial Police Teams of Puerto del Rosario and Gran Tarajal, the Basic Information Team of Fuerteventura, and other units belonging to the Territorial Company of Fuerteventura.
The investigation was initiated following **information provided by the Moroccan DGST**, a result of the close cooperation between both countries in the fight against drug trafficking and organized crime.
From this exchange, the investigative teams began discreet surveillance of a criminal group based on the island of Fuerteventura, whose movements aroused suspicion of an imminent drug trafficking operation

After weeks of intense operational and intelligence efforts, investigators determined that the night of December 10 would be chosen by the group to introduce the drug through a beach in the south of the island. With this information, a special operation was deployed to intercept the shipment and arrest those involved.
During the operation, agents observed an unusual increase in activity in the area, coinciding with the approach to the coast of a semi-rigid boat about eight meters long, equipped with a powerful outboard motor. The difficult weather conditions, typical of the days before the impact of Storm Emilia, complicated its arrival on land
Moments after disembarking, surveillance teams detected a large commercial van leaving the scene at high speed. The vehicle was quickly intercepted and its three occupants were arrested. Inside the vehicle, 23 burlap bales containing suspected hashish were found, with a total approximate weight of 877.1 kilograms.
In addition to the seized substance, the Guardia Civil **confiscated two land vehicles and the boat** used in the transport, along with several telephone terminals and geolocation devices used by the accused
After the corresponding proceedings were initiated, the three detainees were placed at the disposal of Court of First Instance and Investigation No. 8 of Puerto del Rosario, through the Public Prosecutor's Office of Puerto del Rosario (Las Palmas), which requested their committal to prison without bail. The measure was agreed upon by the Hon. Mr. Judge, ordering their transfer to the Tahíche Penitentiary Center (Lanzarote).
