The association Tu Abandono Me Puede Matar has shown its "absolute concern" about the situation experienced this Friday at the Tahíche Penitentiary Center, where they claim that a prisoner barricaded himself in the bathroom of the social area, after "inflicting several cuts on his arms with a razor blade" and threatened the officials.

According to the group, the inmate urged the workers "not to approach him, unless they wanted to be 'taken down'", a situation in which they claim that "endangering their lives", the officials reduced the inmate and transferred him to the infirmary "to be treated for the bleeding wounds he had made".

Likewise, the association Tu Abandono me Puede Matar denounces that, a day before, a worker at the center was harassed and insulted by an inmate, for the mere fact of being a woman".

"That is why we must make public opinion aware of what happens in their prisons, since they are a faithful reflection of their society", says the group, which condemns "the current situation in which prisons in Spain and in particular that of Lanzarote, where neither inmates nor officials have their safety guaranteed". They also state that the change in the management of the center "has unfortunately not meant any modification in the trend of conflict in the same".
