The 30-year-old young man, originally from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, who died after being the victim of an aggression during the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, worked in hospitality in Lanzarote. The events occurred in the early morning of Carnival Monday, when the young man had traveled from Lanzarote to Tenerife to enjoy the festivities, received a strong punch that made him fall to the ground, suffering a severe head trauma. Although he was stabilized and intubated, he died of cardiorespiratory arrest while being transferred by ambulance to the Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria University Hospital.
Two young men of Spanish nationality and Canarian origin were arrested for their alleged participation in the brawl. One of them is identified as the material author of the blow that caused the death, while the other showed signs of having participated in a fight, although his direct connection with the homicide is still under investigation. The National Police and the Homicide Group of the Judicial Police Brigade are working with the hypothesis that the fight was a chance encounter. The autopsy will determine the exact injuries that caused the young man's death. This event marks the first death by aggression in the Carnivals of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in recent years.
