The truck that fatally ran over a man in Tahíche had no driver, according to the Emergency Consortium. At the moment, it is being investigated what happened so that the vehicle "activated itself".
The incident occurred around 8:40 a.m. on Benito Pérez Galdós street, in front of the town's cultural center. According to what La Voz has learned from witnesses, the 69-year-old man was sitting next to another person on a wall when they saw the truck approaching, one of them tried to pull the deceased to avoid the impact but it couldn't be.
The incident was reported by a caller to the 1-1-2 Emergency Coordination Center, which immediately activated the emergency devices. Upon arriving at the scene, paramedics confirmed that the victim, a male, had injuries incompatible with life.
Personnel from the Fire Department of the Security and Emergency Consortium of Lanzarote, Local Police, Civil Guard and a medicalized ambulance from the Canary Emergency Service (SUC) went to the scene. The Civil Guard has taken action on the matter and has initiated the corresponding procedures to clarify the facts.
The event has generated consternation among the residents of Tahíche, who are waiting for answers as to how an accident of these characteristics could have occurred. Meanwhile, the authorities continue with the investigation to determine responsibilities and prevent similar events from repeating in the future.
