The Los Silos tragedy marks one year with a tribute to the six deceased hikers

By Eduardo Delgado Donate, Juan Luis Medina Trujillo, Maurizio Panniello, Estefanía Peña Febles, Ginés Ramírez Alemán and Javier de Souza Sánchez. For all of them, next Sunday, February 10, the Los Silos City Council and their families will hold a heartfelt and simple tribute in memory of "those six great people, nature lovers, who have left a huge void in the lives of those who knew them".

Next Sunday marks one year since the tragic event in which six hikers participating in an excursion in the town of Los Silos, Tenerife, lost their lives after being trapped in a water gallery, known as Piedra de Los Cochinos.

The event will be held in the Patio of the ExConvento de San Sebastián, as a memory and tribute to both the victims and the people of the town, as the families and the city council want to "thank the expressions of support, affection and solidarity from the people of this town in the tragic moments experienced and in the days that followed".

It will begin with the 11.30 am mass in the Parish of Nuestra Señora de La Luz, in Los Silos, and then, in the ExConvento. Friends of the deceased, the City Council and those who wish to do so, will say a few words of tribute, remembrance and gratitude. During the tribute, special recognition will also be given to the Las Portelas family, whose treatment that night they consider to have been "exemplary and very human" and the Los Silos White Voices Choir will bring the event to a close.
