The Tinajo City Council has publicly denounced an act of vandalism in the skate park in the town of La Santa, a space that has not yet been completed "the result of a process of participation and shared work, demanded and agreed upon with the youngest population of the municipality."

The councilor of the area, Vianney Rodríguez, states that “it is surprising that one or more people with aspirations to be a graffiti artist decide, unilaterally, to carry out this aberration in a space that belongs to the municipality. Repairing the damage caused will result in an increase in expenses, economic resources that could be allocated to other types of activities and that are now compromised to return this installation to its original state.”

“Furthermore, the installation is unfinished. This skate park project, demanded by the youngest people of Tinajo, began more than a year ago with an approximate final cost of around 200,000 euros, framed as one of the thirty-three lines of action proposed by the Comprehensive Plan for Children, Adolescents and Youth of Tinajo, approved in Plenary on 02/07/2022

“Graffiti,” continues the councilor, “is a form of artistic expression that renounces vandalism, developed by great professionals who transform public spaces in a consensual and participatory manner with the local population, it is nothing like what has happened in La Santa.”

The mayor, Jesús Machín, “unreservedly condemns this type of act that violates the rights of our neighbors and, what is worse, is a project that the youngest people of La Santa have requested. We are committed to young people and citizen participation to continue improving the municipality of Tinajo,” concludes the mayor.

The Tinajo City Council condemns these acts and proposes that those interested in advancing and expressing themselves through graffiti "agree on a space and adequate training that allows them to express themselves without damaging what belongs to everyone, thus continuing the work of the council in promoting citizen participation." The City Council will undoubtedly support initiatives that contribute improvements to the life of the community, innovative and sensitive to the needs of the residents of Tinajo.
