Agents of the National Police have arrested in Arrecife, five men (three of Colombian nationality and two of Moroccan nationality), aged between 20 and 22 years old, three of them with police records, as perpetrators of a crime of murder.
On November 21, numerous calls to the 091 telephone number alerted of an attack with a knife next to a marquee located on the Vía Medular of the capital of Lanzarote. The police officers who went to the scene were able to verify how a man, who was lying on the ground, was bleeding profusely from the neck and chest. Due to the severity of the injuries, the emergency medical personnel could only certify his death minutes later.
Several witnesses described to the agents how five individuals, in a premeditated manner, gave the victim a beating when he was leaving the public service vehicle.
The revenge, the apparent motive
The police investigation then focused on two groups that had had several altercations with the deceased days before. Firstly, a fight with a knife that the victim had with another Moroccan citizen in a parking lot in La Inés, in which knife wounds were also caused. Secondly, a group of Colombian citizens, acquaintances of the aforementioned, with whom the deceased argued and insulted days before.
The police investigators were able to verify, without any doubt, how all of them participated in the aggression that resulted in the death of the young man last November. Four of the investigated had fled the island of Lanzarote last November, recently returning after being certain that the crime committed would now go unpunished.
Finally, in the early morning of April 19, the Special Security Operations Group, the Prevention and Reaction Unit, and the Air Media Service, coordinated by the Homicide group of the Judicial Police of the Superior Headquarters of Police of the Canary Islands, carried out a police operation in the capital of Lanzarote that culminated in the arrest of all the investigated as perpetrators of a crime of murder.
Once placed at the disposal of the competent Judicial Authority, the immediate imprisonment of all those arrested was decreed.
