Five days after his arrival, neither the Government Delegation, nor the Civil Guard, nor any of the organizations that intervened in the attention have been able to clarify who the Belgian is who came to Lanzarote in a 'patera'. In fact, some sources say that it may not have been a 'patera' at all.
It should be remembered that only four people came in the boat, which arrived on the island in the early hours of last Saturday. On board, in addition to the Belgian, were three men of Moroccan nationality and, according to La Voz, when they were attended by the Red Cross, they said they came from Fuerteventura.
At first, it was reported that this alleged 'patera' had arrived in La Santa and that was the alert received by the Red Cross, as confirmed by the NGO. However, some claim that it landed in Famara, while other sources say that another one arrived at this point that same night and that it would be two different boats. An extreme that La Voz has not been able to clarify despite the consultations transferred to all official sources. And it is that, while from the Government Delegation they refer to the Civil Guard, from the Benemérita they affirm that they do not have competences in immigration and that it must be the Government Delegation who informs.
In the case of the Red Cross, although it intervened, it did so already in the Civil Guard barracks of Costa Teguise, where the four occupants of the boat were transferred. Thus, the NGO does not know if the alleged 'patera' arrived in La Santa as they had been alerted or if it could have done so in Famara.
On the other hand, it was speculated that the boat in which the Belgian arrived could contain drugs, but the Civil Guard has denied it for the moment. According to what they have transferred from the Benemérita, a search was made in a house over the weekend, after a zodiac with foreign people arrived on the island "with packages" that its occupants put in a house, but it was verified that they did not correspond to drugs. However, they have not clarified either if this intervention had to do with the alleged 'patera' in which the Belgian came or if it was in another boat that arrived on the island.
Thus, there are still many unknowns surrounding the alleged 'patera' in which this European citizen arrived. "It is being investigated" is the only thing that the Government Delegation has finally transferred to La Voz after multiple calls.
