The Local Police of Arrecife has opened proceedings against the owner of two dogs for an alleged crime of animal abuse, as reported by the Arrecife City Council.

The Sara protector alerted the agents of the Animal Protection Unit (UPAM) on April 30, that two dogs were in a deplorable state inside an improvised cage in a walled lot, where care was summarized in providing them with food punctually.

The agents, after viewing a video that evidenced the situation of the animals, confirmed that these had been previously delivered to the Animal Protection Center (CPA) due to similar conditions. After consulting the actions carried out previously and jointly with the Animal Protection Center of Arrecife (CPA), it was verified that the dogs were adopted and that "their situation was alarming."

Once on the site, the agents found the animals in deplorable conditions, crowded, without water and surrounded by garbage and debris. The owner, unable to take care of them, agreed to give them back to the Animal Protection Center of Arrecife. The dogs, identified by reading the microchips, have been evaluated by a veterinarian, and a detailed report on their health status is expected.

As indicated by the Police "this case constitutes a clear example of animal abuse, so proceedings were initiated for this alleged crime." "This sad episode reminds us of the importance of denouncing any form of animal abuse and working together to create an environment where all living beings are treated with the respect and attention they deserve," they conclude.
