The Civil Guard is investigating the driver of the vehicle that was circulating with three girls with half their bodies out on the roads of Lanzarote, and the three girls have been reported for several infractions of the traffic safety regulations. A news item published by La Voz de Lanzarote on August 31.
The Civil Guard indicates that agents from the Traffic Detachment and the Accident Investigation Teams (EIS) of Arrecife became aware on August 31, 2024, of the dissemination on social networks of a recording in which it can be observed how the passengers in the front right and rear seats of a car were circulating with half their bodies out of the vehicle, sitting on the windows and not using the mandatory restraint system, taking selfies and photographs of the surroundings, with the consequent danger, their conduct clearly affecting road safety.
After analyzing the disseminated images, they proceeded to carry out the appropriate investigations to identify the vehicle, as well as to locate the place and date the moment of the commission of the events. As a result of the investigations, the agents of the Arrecife Traffic Detachment located the vehicle in the vicinity of the town of Nazaret, and subsequently identified its driver, a 26-year-old male, who is informed that he will be investigated as the alleged perpetrator of an alleged crime of reckless driving.
Likewise, the three occupants of said vehicle who were accompanying the driver were identified, and they were reported to the General Traffic Regulations for the commission of three administrative infractions of the traffic safety regulations for not using the seat belt.
From the investigated events, the corresponding proceedings have been instructed and delivered to the Investigating Court number 2 of Arrecife, and the complaint reports have been sent to the Provincial Traffic Headquarters of Las Palmas.
Applicable regulations
According to the provisions of the current Penal Code, the crime of driving with manifest recklessness is punishable by imprisonment of six months to two years and deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds for a period of more than one and up to six years. Likewise, the General Traffic Regulations include as administrative infractions the failure of the vehicle occupant to use, or not to do so properly, the correctly fastened seat belt, punishable by a financial penalty of 200 euros and the withdrawal of 4 points.
