The Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) of the Civil Guard investigated, on January 15, a person of Spanish nationality, 51 years of age, as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of illegal trafficking of protected or endangered species, for having a caged gray parrot with a red tail (pisttacus erithacus) in a commercial premises.

A regular inspection carried out in a restaurant, located in the municipality of Haría, allowed the SEPRONA agents to find a gray parrot with a red tail on public display in a cage in the business, which is classified as endangered (CITES).

They quickly requested the owner of the premises for the mandatory documentation that would protect the legal possession of the parrot, stating that he did not have it.

The agents then seized the animal, verifying that it did not have a microchip or identification ring either, being transferred to an authorized wildlife rescue center in the municipality of Tías.

Therefore, the SEPRONA contacted the alleged owner of the specimen again, informing him of his investigation as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of illegal trafficking of protected or endangered species, remaining at the disposal of the corresponding Court on duty in the town of Arrecife. At the same time, the events are communicated to the Customs Administrator and the SOIVRE (Foreign Health).
