Five people residing in Lanzarote and a sixth in Seville have been identified by the Civil Guard as alleged perpetrators of a fraud, charging advances for rentals of homes that did not really exist.

The investigation began in Fuerteventura, after receiving complaints from five victims. Most of the alleged houses that were offered were in Corralejo, but there was also one in Lanzarote, from where they operated.

The investigated are between 24 and 42 years old and already had other records. In total, they managed to get 2,600 euros from those affected.

"The victims contacted the scammer through ads on a well-known social network to search for vacation homes supposedly located on the island of Fuerteventura. After the victims contacted the advertiser, she requested the deposit of money through immediate transfers or through an application to make the reservation of the house, with which the property would be reserved and the final agreement to make the delivery of keys", says the Civil Guard.

Once the transfers were made, the victims move to the place where they had arranged to meet the advertiser for the collection of keys, but the perpetrators did not show up.

In addition, from the moment of making the payment they were blocked by the person with whom they had maintained conversation via instant messaging, so they could not contact the advertiser again. "The authors used to change the profile of the social network they used for the ad or block the complainants, so they could not contact them", they specify from the Benemérita.
