The Civil Guard of the Las Palmas Command, specifically the nature protection service (SEPRONA), proceeded to arrest a person as the perpetrator of a crime against animals, for abandoning a dog, last Thursday, July 10, inside a buried metal garbage container, with the animal alive and fully conscious, on Felipe Street in Vecindario.

A neighbor who was walking her dog through the place where the events occurred was alerted by another neighbor about the crying of a dog trapped inside a buried container. A patrol of local police officers went to the scene, but upon not hearing any indication that there was an animal inside the container, they continued their service.

Far from giving up, the neighbor, along with other residents and the fundamental help of a worker from the waste collection service, managed to open the container with a specialized truck. Among the garbage bags, they discovered a dog in critical condition. It was the woman's niece who, without hesitation, entered the inside of the garbage container to rescue the animal, which showed clear signs of suffering and abandonment.

The dog was immediately transferred to the animal care center of Santa Lucía and, later, to a veterinary clinic, where he remains hospitalized with a reserved prognosis and is recovering little by little. The SEPRONA of Vecindario took over the investigation to identify the person responsible for the events. Despite the fact that the animal lacked a microchip, citizen collaboration was key to finding the perpetrator.

The Civil Guard wanted to highlight the valuable collaboration of a citizen whose help was key to saving the life of the dog that had been thrown in the trash. Thanks to her quick action and the commitment of the people of Vecindario, it was possible not only to rescue the animal in time, but also to identify the person responsible for this act.
