The Civil Guard arrested a man at Lanzarote airport for a crime against public health. The arrest occurred on December 20, when agents with fiscal protection duties of the State at the aerodrome observed a man who "showed obvious symptoms of nervousness, with an evasive attitude and tending to hide from the police presence."

The civil guards intercepted him and proceeded to identify him, as well as to ask him about his legal and work situation in Spain. The man, a native of the Dominican Republic and whose initials are L.J.M.P., answered "in a confusing and unreliable manner", according to the Civil Guard in a statement.

Therefore, the agents carried out an inspection of the luggage he was carrying and also a body search. "Given the continuity of nervousness, he was subjected to some radiological tests, in which several lumps could be observed, typical of those used by people who transport drugs in their body," the Civil Guard reported.

Given this last fact, the agents transferred this person to a hospital where he expelled a total of "73 acorns supposedly of cocaine and with a total approximate weight of 750 grams of this drug." The detainee was traveling on a domestic flight from the peninsula.

The arrest together with the proceedings and the seized drug were placed at the disposal of the Investigating Court of Arrecife. The Court ordered his admission to provisional prison.
