The Helimar helicopter, from Maritime Rescue, has located the body of one of the immigrants who was traveling in the boat that capsized in the early hours of this Thursday in waters near Costa Teguise.
The lifeless body of this immigrant was found around 10:00 a.m. one mile from the port of Los Mármoles. A Maritime Rescue boat has transferred the body to the port.
Emergency teams are still searching for several crew members of this boat, who are missing. In addition, divers from the Special Group of Underwater Activities (GEAS) of the Civil Guard of Las Palmas will join the search device.
The Civil Guard rescued 17 immigrants at 2:30 a.m. and they stated that up to 25 people were traveling in the boat. For the moment, the body of one of them has been located by the Helimar helicopter.
The president of the Red Cross in Lanzarote, Rafael Hernández, assured this Thursday on Radio Lanzarote that some immigrants "cried and others prayed" upon arrival on land, for their missing companions.
All the immigrants are Maghrebi and suffered from hypothermia when they were found in the early morning. They also suffered "blows and scratches" from the overturning. Among them, there are two minors, according to what they themselves have stated upon arrival on the coast.
