A resident of La Graciosa has contacted La Voz to denounce “the lack of police on the island”. Last Wednesday, she says, an individual went to her house “to attack her father”, at which point she contacted the Civil Guard and 112 to request police presence, but she assures that “no one came”. The only one who finally came was the local police officer that the island has, who was off duty but traveled there to “do the family a favor”.

According to her, the events began when her father, a taxi driver on the island, was heading to the Las Conchas area with some clients and another taxi driver was blocking his way. After the discussion, later in the afternoon, the individual went with his brother to the family home, verbally threatening him, saying “I'm going to kill you, I'm going to beat you up, clown”. The threat became reality, according to the complainant, and he attacked her father, who ended up with “a four-stitch wound on his eyebrow, as well as injuries to his ear and neck”.

On the contrary, the other party assures that the daughter's version “is a lie”, and that it was her father "who started both discussions” and who made threats. He also maintains that he was the one who initiated the alleged physical aggression, “forcing him to get out of the car" and "even tearing his shirt”, so he claims that he has filed a complaint “for threats” with the Civil Guard of Costa Teguise.

"If he gets stabbed, won't they come either?"

Aside from the cross-complaints between both parties, the daughter of one of them questions that when the aggression against her father occurred, she called the Civil Guard and 112, requesting that a security member come to the area. However, that did not happen, having to go the only Local Police officer on the island, who was “off duty”. “The Civil Guard comes if drugs appear on the island, but if my father's eyebrow is broken, they don't. If he gets stabbed, won't they come either?”, she asks.

The resident also criticizes that, when she went to the Civil Guard of Costa Teguise to formally file the complaint, they attended to her "in the street”, so that “everyone could find out about the complaint”. In addition, she questions the response of the Police, who asked her “to come back to pick it up later, in the other shift”.

“The main complaint is the lack of police presence”, says the resident, who believes that “for the amount of people there are, there should be Police on the island”. In addition, she assures that when they finally went to the National Police facilities in Arrecife, to also file the complaint there, they told her that “if that had happened in Arrecife, he would already be arrested".
