The Nature Protection Team proceeded to investigate two men after having carried out the extraction of species during the closed season and within an area included in the marine reserve around La Graciosa and the Northern Islets of Lanzarote, specifically in La Charca de la Laja. Specifically, the catches made were of white limpet, patella ulyssiponensis aspera, which is currently in a closed season in order not to interfere with the biological spawning period and which runs from December 1 to April 30.

The events were brought to the attention of the Civil Guard by the Marine Reserve Surveillance Service, who were able to warn that two people could be carrying out underwater fishing in the area indicated. Therefore, members of the Nature Protection Detachment, in coordination with the Surveillance Service, were able to find the divers as they left the water in a nearby area, proceeding to their immediate identification. The alleged perpetrators of the events were carrying diving equipment, fishing gear and one of them a bag of white limpets.

At the time the Civil Guard was carrying out police work to obtain evidence, one of the investigated was able to throw the bag with the catches into the sea, being later located with them when he went to look for them.

The alleged perpetrators of the events did not have any type of license to protect the events, nor authorization to carry them out in the marine reserve.

Subsequent to the investigation of these people, the Civil Guard re-identified one of them and found the same type of catches in the trunk, for which a complaint was filed.
