The arrested man had been released on bail for the alleged assault that left the Sicilian in a coma for several weeks last July

One of those arrested for the brawl with a knife that ended with a man hospitalized in serious condition last Friday, September 19, was already involved in at least two other media-covered assaults on the island of Lanzarote. According to La Voz, P.M.R.R. is one of the three arrested for his alleged involvement in this fight.

In total, one of them is charged with attempted homicide, while the other two are charged with assault.

His arrest comes just over two months after being released on bail for the alleged assault on Sicilian Salvatore Sinagra in a nightclub in Puerto del Carmen. The young Italian had to be transferred urgently by helicopter to Gran Canaria and was in a coma for several weeks, struggling between life and death.

P.M.R.R. was arrested on February 1, at 11:40 p.m., and was imprisoned a few days later. After several unsuccessful attempts, he obtained provisional release in July, when the victim's clinical condition improved and he was able to be discharged from the hospital, on the condition that he appear in court every 15 days, an order to stay away from the victim, and a bail of 7,000 euros.

This man, with multiple police records, was also sentenced in May 2024 to pay less than 380 euros to an elderly man whom he assaulted along with another man in the middle of a roundabout in Arrecife, after having a traffic argument. Both convicts have appealed the sentence.

What happened on Friday?

In broad daylight, when there were only ten minutes left until 12:00 noon last Friday, September 19, the residents of Malagueña Street in Argana Alta, in Arrecife, noticed a fight that was taking place in the middle of the road. On the ground, the body of a man in his 30s was hidden among the parked vehicles. From one of the houses on the street, only his feet could be seen.

One of the alleged participants in the brawl was leaving the scene with his entire torso covered in blood. He had moved a few steps away from him, but after a few seconds he decided to return. He threw one, two, and even three kicks at him. Then, he left the place again. Along with him, P.M.R.R. had also left the area, with his shirt completely torn.

Three arrested

The Arrecife Local Police and the National Police went to the Argana Alta neighborhood after being alerted to the brawl. In the area, they found a 30-year-old man injured with multiple contusions and various serious stab wounds. The man was transferred in a medical ambulance to the José Molina Orosa Hospital, according to the Emergency Coordination Center (CECOES).

Meanwhile, another man was injured and went to the Molina Orosa Hospital on his own. Both were arrested in the hospital itself.

The police hypothesis is that this brawl was due to a settling of accounts.
