The Civil Guard of Gran Canaria Airport, under the functional dependence of the Customs and Special Taxes Administration, arrested a person who was traveling from a non-EU country, carrying a large quantity of drugs in their luggage, almost eight kilos of marijuana.
The operation took place upon the arrival of a flight from Europe, during the checks carried out by the Civil Guard in its role of State Fiscal Guard.
The passenger's attitude led to his identification and, during a thorough inspection of his luggage, several bags containing a plant-based substance were discovered, as well as other items used for criminal activity, all inside a suitcase.
The subsequent analysis of the seized substance revealed a positive result for the presence of marijuana, an amount close to eight kilograms, of a drug whose trade and introduction into Spain are prohibited, thus underscoring the seriousness of the offense and its potential impact on public health.
This intervention exemplifies the effectiveness of the preventive measures implemented by the Civil Guard and the Tax Agency in airport areas, designed to detect and prevent both fiscal and criminal offenses.
As a result of this coordinated action, the individual was arrested and faces charges for a crime against public health in the form of drug trafficking.
The detainee, along with the seized drugs, were placed at the disposal of the Instruction Section of the Court of Instance of Telde.
