The third phase of the Arrecife 'murgas' contest almost turned into tragedy when part of the stand collapsed and fell to the ground. The incident took place at the end of the gala when the names of the finalist 'murgas' were being announced.
Three people were injured, one of them a pregnant woman who was trapped in the stand and two others who fell to the ground. Two of them had multiple injuries and were evacuated by ambulance to the Molina Orosa Hospital.
Two ambulances from the Canary Islands Emergency Service went to the scene and were in charge of assisting them and transferring them to the Hospital.
During those moments, there was a lot of tension and shouting, because some 'murgueros' confronted the Councilor for Festivities, Encarna Páez, criticizing the poor condition of the Fairgrounds, to which she replied that she was not to blame.
On the morning of this Thursday, two people have already been discharged from hospital, including the pregnant woman, and the third remains in the hospital.
