The National Police has arrested a man and a woman in Tenerife, residents of Murcia, as alleged perpetrators of a crime of mistreatment towards their two-year-old son, following events that occurred in a restaurant establishment in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

As reported this Monday by the National Police in a statement, the events took place on July 8, when the parents went to the restaurant accompanied by the minor.

According to the statements of the establishment's workers, the father allegedly hit and shook the child and covered his mouth and nose with his hand on several occasions and for prolonged intervals to make him stop crying.

The mother "not only did not try to prevent the behavior", but apparently encouraged the father to act in that way, according to the Police.

After receiving the alert, the agents initiated an investigation that allowed the alleged perpetrators to be identified, whose habitual residence is in Murcia.

The collaboration between the minors' group of the National Police of Tenerife and their counterparts in Murcia allowed the father to be arrested on July 20 and the mother the following day on the island, after which both were placed at the disposal of the judicial authority.
