The Civil Guard of Costa Teguise arrested a person in that locality on the 20th of this month as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against public health. According to the Benemérita, this person sold narcotic substances, specifically marijuana and hashish, in his establishment "indiscriminately". The detainee is a worker in a business related to hemp cultivation. Among other things, 512 doses of marijuana and 149 doses of hashish were seized.

According to the Civil Guard, the agents initiated the operation as a result of the "increase in drug use by young people, including minors," in the town of Costa Teguise. They suspected that the origin of these substances was a business related to the cultivation of hemp.

For these reasons, the Civil Guard initiated the corresponding operation to verify the location of an alleged point of sale of narcotic substances. "In this way, it was possible to verify that a large number of people, including some minors, appeared at a certain business and after purchasing doses of marijuana or hashish, went out to the public road to consume it outside," explains the Benemérita.

Registration, detention and complaints for drug use on public roads

Thus, the Civil Guard initiated "in parallel" the corresponding complaints to law 4/2015 on Protection of Citizen Security, specifically article 36.16, which sanctions "the consumption or illicit possession of toxic drugs, narcotics or psychotropic substances, even if they were not intended for traffic, in public places, roads, establishments or collective transport".

After making these inquiries, the agents requested the corresponding judicial order for entry and search and, once granted, it was carried out on June 20. In that search, a worker of the aforementioned establishment was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a drug trafficking crime. 512 doses of marijuana and 149 doses of hashish were seized, as well as two precision scales and abundant documentation.

The detainee, together with the seized narcotic substances, has been placed at the disposal of the corresponding Court, on guard duty, of the town of Arrecife.
