The Local Police of Arrecife arrested this Thursday a 51-year-old man for stealing a vehicle in Madrid. The arrest took place at approximately 10:15 a.m. during the Dynamic Traffic Control work of local agents in the city.

The agents, using OCR (optical character recognition) systems, were able to detect the stolen vehicle, identify and carry out the corresponding checks before arresting the individual. According to police sources speaking to La Voz, this car had been previously reported by a car rental company in Madrid and was located by local police officers in the capital.

As the police officers have indicated, the man had stolen the car in the Spanish capital and had arrived in Lanzarote with the vehicle. Finally, he was investigated for a crime of misappropriation.

New implementation of technological devices

The agents use OCR (optical character recognition) systems to identify these stolen vehicles. The Local Police have recalled that the implementation of technological devices, together with the qualification and determination of the agents, has proven to be a success in the management and resolution of crimes. Thanks to the immediate availability of information through these means, agents can recover stolen vehicles and proceed to the arrest of those responsible by detecting the vehicle in motion. In addition, this also allows developing a database with this type of habitual offenders.

With the implementation of this system, in just 15 hours, the agents managed to resolve two cases of stolen vehicles, returning them to their rightful owners. As La Voz published, last Wednesday afternoon, the agents arrested three people who were driving through Arrecife in a vehicle that had been stolen in San Bartolomé.
