Local Police arrest a man for gender violence in Arrecife

The arrested man had a big argument with his partner, who ended up locked in the bathroom of the premises due to "fear that the threats would materialize."

Agents of the Local Police of Arrecife have arrested a 32-year-old individual for his alleged participation in a case of gender violence. The events occurred around 10 in the morning in a cafeteria in the capital of Lanzarote, when an employee of the establishment alerted 112 about an argument between a couple in their premises."

Immediately, the Citizen Attention Operative Group (GOAC) of the Local Police of Arrecife deployed two patrols of the Local Police, who went to the place and found the victim locked in the bathroom, while the alleged perpetrator had left the area. After a brief search for the perpetrator, without success, the agents returned to the establishment to assist and interview the victim, 33 years of age, who recounted a previous argument in her home that moved to the cafeteria.

The victim, the proceedings note, "reported being threatened with death by her partner, which led her to seek refuge in the toilets of the establishment, with the latent fear that the threats would materialize. She did not hesitate to express her firm will to file the corresponding complaint."

During the interview, the alleged perpetrator appeared again at the scene and was identified by witnesses, which led to his immediate arrest. Subsequently, the individual was transferred to a health center and then placed at the disposal of the court.

From the Local Police of Arrecife it is highlighted that "the victim received specialized attention from other agents, who accompanied her in an integral way during the process of presenting the complaint. In addition, all the policies and resources available offered by the City Council of Arrecife were put in place to offer her broad coverage."

"In this new case of gender violence, the prompt and effective action of the Local Police of Arrecife in the attention of incidents related to gender violence, demonstrates its firm commitment to the protection of all people, especially those in a situation of vulnerability", say from the police force.

The mayor of Arrecife, and direct head of the Local Police, Yonathan de León, has emphasized the performance of the Local Police that, "with the new means that have been made available to the body (vehicles, transmission equipment, new headquarters, video surveillance system, and camouflaged vehicles, among others, allows an immediate response to people suffering gender violence."

This rapid action was framed in a close collaboration with the National Police, thus strengthening the joint efforts to guarantee the security and well-being in the city of Arrecife.
