The National Police has arrested in Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura) "a key link" of an organization that chartered inflatable boats with immigrants to the Canary Islands from the coasts of Tan-Tan (southern Morocco), in an operation that reported more than 4,000 euros of profit per person.

As reported this Sunday night by the Superior Headquarters of the Canary Islands Police in a statement, it is the contact in the islands of "a transnational network dedicated to the illicit trafficking of people", with operational base in Morocco.

"The structure had functions distributed among different members (capture, transport, control and collection), and had its own logistical means such as all-terrain vehicles and technological tools for the management of payments and operational coordination," he details.

The person arrested in Fuerteventura is accused of acting "as an operational intermediary, taking care of receiving payments, coordinating transfers and providing logistical support to migrants upon their arrival in the Canary Islands."

In order to face this arrest, the Police previously carried out - between May 28 and 30 - the search of a home in the town of Antigua (Fuerteventura), where six mobile phones, two mass data storage devices and documentation related to the investigated activity were seized.

The detainee, whose identity or nationality has not been disclosed, was placed at the disposal of the Investigating Court number 1 of Arrecife, which ordered his provisional imprisonment.
