Irish mobster Gerry Hutch, who was arrested in Lanzarote in October 2024 in a large-scale operation by the Guardia Civil against organized crime, has been fined 800,000 euros following raids on his homes on the island and in Dublin last year, according to the British newspaper Sunday World.

This fine has been imposed by the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) and corresponds to an unpaid tax bill related to the years between 2006 and 2010.

The CAB can assess individuals for unpaid taxes in the State or in cases related to the proceeds of crime, after assets have been identified. These usually focus on properties, cars, cash, or jewelry that have been seized or identified during investigations.

Hutch has been living between Lanzarote and Dublin, and has even acquired properties on the island, where he has been living intermittently since 2012.

On the other hand, days after his arrest, the Court of Instruction number 2 of Arrecife **released him on bail** of 100,000 euros and decided not to impose any additional precautionary measures

Shortly thereafter, in Ireland, Hutch ran for election in the north inner-city constituency, managing to conduct an impressive campaign, although he ultimately failed to secure a seat in the Dublin Central constituency

It is not the first time Gerry Hutch has been arrested in Spain; in 2021 he was apprehended in the Malaga city of Fuengirola on an international arrest warrant, as he was wanted by his country's justice system for the murder of David Byrne in a hotel in Ireland. He was acquitted a year ago of the crime he was accused of then, a case in which he was being tried for murder.

For years, the Hutch clan has been disputing power with the Kinahan criminal organization, one of the most powerful in the world and to which Gerry Hutch himself once belonged. This struggle between the two clans, which the Kinahan ultimately won, resulted in the deaths of more than twenty people after a young Irish mobster from the Hutch family was murdered by the pool of his housing development in Mijas (Málaga) in 2015.
