Search and rescue work recorded from the GES helicopter

The search device to locate the migrants who fell on Tuesday night into the sea off the coast of Órzola, in the area of La Condesa, has been reactivated first thing this Wednesday morning, being able to find four more bodies of men between 20 and 30 years old, as confirmed by sources from the Canary Islands 112 Emergency and Security Coordinating Center.

Specifically, firefighters from the Lanzarote Emergency Consortium were able to locate the bodies of two men early this Wednesday morning, minutes later they recovered a third corpse of another young man and hours later they took out another body, in such a way that at least the number of people who died after the boat capsized in the north of the island would amount to eight.

The search device continues active by air, sea and land and is composed of a helicopter from the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES), as well as personnel from the Red Cross, Emerlan, Guardia Civil, Local Police and firefighters.

The boat capsized after colliding with the breakwater of the dock and due to the bad sea conditions. Fortunately, there were emergency personnel at the scene who had come to Órzola to transfer the 28 immigrants who had arrived hours before on the island of La Graciosa.

After the overturning, a total of 28 people have managed to reach the dock of Órzola, in the municipality of Haría, either by being rescued by the emergency services or by reaching land on their own. Some neighbors who witnessed the scene jumped into the sea to try to help them.
