Emerlan volunteers saved the life of a German tourist this past Sunday after he suffered a cardiac arrest at the Teguise Market.
Emerlan received a report in the morning stating that a man had collapsed in the Plaza de la Constitución, so the Advanced Life Support Unit quickly rushed to the scene.
When they arrived at the scene, they found the patient being attended to by healthcare personnel who were in the area. Advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers were immediately initiated: venous access, drug administration, airway management, and monitoring.
The medical team applied a total of five defibrillator shocks, managing to reverse the cardiac arrest and recover the patient's pulse.
A Basic Life Support ambulance from the SUC and another Advanced Life Support unit also attended the scene, which finally took charge of transferring the patient to the José Molina Orosa hospital
From Emerlan, they highlight the importance of first aid provided by the people present, whose quick action was vital until the arrival of our ambulance. They also thank the collaboration of the Local Police of Teguise and the SUC personnel.
