At 3:00 p.m. this Wednesday, CECOES activated the rescue protocol after receiving notice of a 15-meter sailboat adrift five nautical miles from Puerto Calero. The GES vessel of Emerlan, based in La Tiñosa, was immediately mobilized and headed to the point of the incident.
Once in the area, the troops verified that the two occupants of the sailboat were in good condition. After securing the boat, towing to port began, although sea and wind conditions forced a request for reinforcement.
At the request of Emerlan, CECOES coordinated with Maritime Rescue the support of the Salvamar Anair, which came to the meeting and took over the tow, culminating the operation successfully at 6:25 p.m.
From Emerlan, the importance of taking extreme precautions at sea is remembered. In less than 10 days, the GES-EMERLAN vessel has intervened in the rescue of three vessels with a total of 16 people, in addition to participating in two incidents related to floats, one of them with a minor adrift.
