A passenger recorded the moment the pilot asked for 20 volunteers to get off the plane

The airline EasyJet made 19 passengers get off a plane in Lanzarote because "there was too much weight to take off." This was reported by the Daily Mail media. The events occurred last Wednesday, the aircraft was scheduled to depart at 9:45 p.m. and ended up taking off from César Manrique Airport at 11:30 p.m. due to bad weather.

Once they were on the plane, the pilot asked about twenty volunteer passengers to leave the aircraft. "Thank you all for being here today, but there are too many passengers and the plane weighs too much," the pilot said in a video captured by a passenger. The travelers were leaving the island bound for John Lennon Airport in Liverpool.

"The weight of the plane, combined with a fairly short runway and unfavorable conditions on the island, makes the plane too heavy to take off," the pilot added.

As explained by the media The Echo, the airline EasyJet offered 500 euros per passenger as compensation if they voluntarily left the aircraft and did not fly that day.
