Agents of the Local Police of Arrecife detected a total of eight criminal infractions for crimes against road safety over the past weekend. Of the drivers investigated, three of them were driving without a license, while the rest were under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

According to the Arrecife City Council, three of the drivers were investigated for driving in an "irregular and dangerous" manner and after taking the breathalyzer test exceeded the alcohol levels permitted by law. At the same time, another of them was involved in a car accident, exceeding the criminal limit; and the last one was under "the evident influence of alcoholic beverages and narcotic substances".

These interventions were carried out through dynamic controls, where officers observed the behavior of drivers. In this way, "any erratic driving, infraction, or conduct that poses a risk to road safety" is a reason for local police officers to intervene and stop the vehicle.

A driver, under search, arrest and appearance

These interventions by the agents of the Local Police of Arrecife allowed the identification of one of the drivers who had a judicial order for search, arrest, and appearance in force, for not having previously appeared before the judicial authority in similar proceedings.

Given the risk of repetition and in order to ensure their appearance before the judicial authorities, they were arrested. In all interventions, the agents proceeded to immobilize the vehicles involved, in accordance with current regulations, with the aim of guaranteeing road safety and preventing the continuation of the risk.

Five driving licenses seized

Likewise, five driving licenses were seized, and they were sent to the judicial authority. The public is reminded that these types of actions are processed through fast-track trials for road safety offenses, which allows for an agile judicial response.

Usually, those investigated are summoned in the days immediately following the events, with these proceedings being resolved in a short period of time. The penalties for these offenses entail fines, community service, and even prison sentences, as well as the withdrawal of the driving license for the legally established period, especially in cases of recidivism.

The Local Police of Arrecife has recalled its commitment to road safety, intensifying surveillance on risky behaviors and acting preventively and forcefully in the face of any non-compliance with regulations, with the aim of protecting all road users.
