The Local Police of Teguise arrested an individual this Sunday, August 30, in La Caleta de Famara after a dangerous escape in a vehicle that was reported stolen.

As reported by the Department, the intervention began when the driver evaded a preventive security checkpoint located at the LZ-402 roundabout and sped off without obeying the officers' instructions.

During the evasion, the car entered the urban area of Famara, driving with extreme danger, with reckless maneuvers that posed an evident risk to pedestrians, residents, and other road users. The coordinated action of the officers made it possible to intercept the vehicle and apprehend the driver before any personal injuries occurred.

“The speed and effectiveness of the officers made it possible to neutralize a situation that could have had much more serious consequences for the citizens. From the Department, we continue to reinforce preventive presence and police coordination, especially during days of high attendance such as the Famara festivities,” declared Ginés González, councilor for Local Police.

Once the car was intercepted, the officers verified that the vehicle appeared in police databases as stolen. After identifying the driver, it was also confirmed that he lacked the corresponding driving license and had a police record related to property crimes.

As a result of the intervention, the corresponding proceedings have been initiated for the alleged commission of crimes against road safety—for reckless driving and for driving without a license—disobedience to law enforcement officers, and theft or unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The detainee will be placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority.
