The Local Police of Arrecife have successfully arrested a drug dealer, with a long criminal record, during an operation carried out in a public park in the capital of Lanzarote. The detainee was caught "red-handed" thanks to aerial surveillance by a police drone and has already been brought to justice.

The operation, carried out last Wednesday, March 18, is part of the deployments that the Local Police are carrying out in sensitive areas of the city, after receiving repeated complaints from residents about drug use and trafficking in areas near a children's park. The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, has ordered these operations to be reinforced to identify sellers of illicit substances and protect young people from their influence in public spaces.

The Drone and Operational Robotics in Navigation Unit (UDRON) of the Local Police played a key role in the arrest. During the morning of March 19, the police drone captured in real time the exchange of drugs and money between two people in an area considered high risk. While the buyer left the scene, the agents tracked and managed to intercept the receiver, who was found to have illicit substances in his possession.

At the same time, another patrol intercepted the seller, who was recorded at all times by the drone. Upon being searched, the agents found a significant amount of cash, which confirmed his involvement in drug trafficking. The individual was informed of the reasons for his arrest, the evidence against him, and his rights as a detainee, before being transferred to judicial disposition.
