Agents of the Local Police of Arrecife arrested a man last Friday accused of threatening two citizens with death with a large knife, as well as disobeying and resisting the authorities.
According to a statement issued by the Local Police, a group of young people stole an electronic device from a man. Then, a citizen demanded that they return it, because this device really belonged to her and she had only lent it to her friend. After insisting, the device was returned to her, but one of the young men took out a large knife, approached the claimant and threatened to "kill and slit her throat".
The citizen ran towards the Arrecife shopping center area and the Insular Library area and managed to contact the National Police by telephone. Three patrols quickly arrived at the scene. Thanks to the description provided by both the threatened woman and a security guard, they identified the suspect, who fled running towards Juan Negrín street upon noticing the police presence.
The agents began the pursuit, but lost sight of him, so they carried out a raid in the area. From the Operations Room of the Local Police, it was possible to observe, through the traffic cameras, that an individual was fleeing in a suspicious attitude through the adjacent streets.
This information was communicated to two patrols of the Local Police to go to the place following the instructions from the Operations Room, locating him at the fork of Lebrillo street with Dr. Juan Negrín street. Despite the agents ordering him to stop several times, the suspect continued running, ignoring them.
In the course of the pursuit, a citizen noticed the situation and tried to intercept the individual, who then took out a knife and threatened him. At that moment, the agents took the opportunity to arrest him.
Thanks to the rapid and coordinated police intervention, together with the valuable citizen collaboration, the individual was finally arrested. The Local Police of Arrecife thanks the citizens for their support and reiterates its commitment to the safety of all.
