Arrested for throwing another man down an elevator shaft in a squat building in Arrecife

Agents of the National Police of Arrecife have arrested a 53-year-old man in the city as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of attempted homicide.

On June 12, agents received a call on the 091 telephone line, informing them that an individual had fallen down the elevator shaft in an occupied building in the capital of Lanzarote.

Healthcare personnel immediately went to the scene, first attending to and then transferring the victim, a 60-year-old man, to a medical center in Arrecife. After the medical check-up, he was diagnosed with multiple fractures and contusions.

Police officers then interviewed several witnesses, all of them residents in the occupied building where the events occurred, who stated that "the victim had had a heated argument with another individual."

During the argument, according to their statements, the 53-year-old man "struck him numerous times and threw him down the elevator shaft (which was 10 meters high)."

Therefore, the alleged perpetrator of the events was finally arrested for a crime of attempted homicide and placed at the disposal of the competent Judicial Authority.

In addition, after being hospitalized and recovering from various vertebral and rib fractures, the victim has recently been discharged from the hospital.
