The burning of some mattresses forced the evacuation of around 60 migrant minors during the early hours of this Monday at the Albergue de La Santa reception center. This is revealed by the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium.
According to the manager of the Consortium, Enrique Espinosa, to La Voz, the flames originated in the same dependencies as last time, after one in the morning.
Firefighters from the Tinajo Bravo central park, the Central and South Park, went to the scene. When the firefighters arrived at the area, the center was already evacuated, and the interior of the same was flooded with smoke and gases.
The firefighters ventilated the room where the fire originated and checked the nearby rooms. After that, all the minors staying in the place were able to return to the center. Agents of the Civil Guard also went to the place.
This space, which was planned in the autumn of 2018 as a temporary resource, has been the subject of controversy in recent years. To such an extent that its management by the entity Fundación Respuesta Social Siglo XXI was part of a lawsuit filed by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office for appreciating indications of embezzlement of public funds, unfair administration and falsehood in a commercial document. Currently, it is managed by the Fepas Association.
