A Naviera Armas ship that set sail last Friday at 11:00 a.m. from the Port of Los Mármoles bound for Gran Canaria suffered an incident when it was adrift when the cables became entangled in the ship's propellers, causing one of its engines to stop on its journey and had to be towed.
The events occurred, according to a witness, "when the mooring men released the cable ahead of time and it fell into the water, which caused it to become entangled in the ship's propellers." This caused the ship to leave for its destination two and a half hours late, as the intervention of divers was necessary to untangle the cables from the propellers.
After solving the problem, the ship set sail for the Port of La Luz y de Las Palmas, but halfway through the journey, the ship was adrift due to a mechanical failure when one of the engines stopped.
According to the witness, "they tried to start it but after two minutes it stopped again, so it had to sail with only one engine." When they were near the mouth of the port, the tugboat came to help it enter the port.
The passenger complains that the ship "is abandoned, without maintenance," he says. "It's a disgrace, at no time did they tell us what was happening and the company says they didn't inform us because the breakdown wasn't that serious," he concludes.
