Throughout this week, two more dead cats have been found in controlled colonies in Soo, adding to an undetermined number of cats that have recently appeared dead. The Local Police of Teguise and the Animal Welfare Department of the City Council are investigating whether the cats have been poisoned or if the deaths are due to some unknown disease.
For such investigation, an autopsy (necropsy) will be performed on the animals and parts will be sent to be analyzed by the laboratories of the Veterinary University of Las Palmas.
From Ademal they point out that "if it is resolved that the cats have been poisoned, we would be facing a serious crime of animal abuse resulting in death." The fines for this crime can range between 3,000 euros and 10,000 euros, with the possibility of imprisonment.
From the animal association they make "a call to all the residents of the area, in case they have seen something or know if they have left poison in the area" to call the Local Police or the association itself and add that "all information will be treated anonymously".
