The Trade Union Section of CSIF at the Tahíche penitentiary center has denounced an aggression and the injuries suffered by three officials after being beaten by a prisoner during the night of last Friday.

According to the union in a note, the events date back to 9:00 p.m. last Friday at the time of the prisoner count and the subsequent relief of the officials. At that moment, an inmate from module four "began to shout, insult and violently hit the closed door of the cell."

After that, and according to the union's complaint, the prison officials who were on duty in said module went to try to clarify what was happening to the inmate. "With the authorization of the Head of Services, they opened the cell and spoke with said inmate to try to calm him down, since he was altered and nervous," he adds.

"The prisoner, after a brief conversation, left the cell shouting on his own foot, walking, when suddenly in the middle of the gallery he "placed himself in an attack position, challenging and throwing a punch at a worker who managed to dodge it," attests the union section in the Tachíche prison. At that moment, two more officials intervened, who pounced on the inmate, who showed resistance and tried to attack the officials.

The workers ended up on the ground in an attempt to reduce the prisoner, so they needed the support of more officials to immobilize him, while the inmate continued insulting and trying to escape, according to CSIF.

After being immobilized with handcuffs, the inmate was transferred to isolation. During the operation, three officials were beaten, one even ending up with torn and torn clothes, and treated in the center's infirmary suffering contusions and bruises in different parts of the body.

From CSIF they have demanded the recognition of the officials as "agents of authority, more resources and adequate training for the staff, which once again thanks to their professionalism manages to avoid more serious and harmful events."
