This Tuesday a young pilot whale appeared stranded near Puerto Calero, as reported by the Volunteer Firefighters of Lanzarote. A catamaran that was nearby picked it up and took it to port.

Boluntis was activated by the Society for the Study of the Canary Archipelago (SECAC) to collaborate in the rescue. After carrying out the necessary checks, they moved the cetacean to the SECAC facilities to carry out the corresponding studies.

The tropical pilot whale, also called pilot whale and roaz by the Canarians, belongs to the dolphin family. It is the most frequent species in the channel that separates La Gomera from Tenerife, being more likely to find it about two nautical miles, outside the port of Los Cristianos or Puerto Colón.
