An apartment located on Irlanda Street in Playa Blanca was engulfed in flames early this morning. A fire that, according to the head of the Fire and Rescue Unit (UCIR) of Civil Protection of Yaiza, Patrick Cazorla, "did not end in tragedy thanks to the brave and heroic attitude of a neighbor".
Apparently, according to these same sources, a lapse may have been the cause of the fire, which broke out around 05:00 hours. The owner of the house attached to the damaged one, they report, woke up when he noticed a strong smell of burning. After verifying that there were no signs of fire in his house, he looked out to the adjoining apartment where, through the windows, he could see flames coming, apparently, from a pan forgotten on the kitchen stove.
After waking up the tenants who were sleeping, the neighbor notified 112, while he put out the fire with the help of a saucepan with water. Members of the Local Police and the Fire and Rescue Unit of Civil Protection of Yaiza went to the area and helped extinguish the flames.
