The Civil Guard of the Main Port of Tías arrested this Thursday a man, with initials F.S. and of foreign nationality, for an alleged crime against public health, for growing 65 marijuana plants inside his home.

As explained in a statement, Civil Guard agents were providing "citizen security service" in the urban area of Puerto del Carmen when they received "a strong smell of marijuana coming from a nearby apartment complex in the area." After approaching the place, they located the address from where it came and, through the window, "they could see the presence of several marijuana plants."

After contacting the tenant of the house, who according to the agents "at all times collaborated with the Civil Guard", he "voluntarily allowed the agents to enter the house, in order to verify that there was a marijuana crop."

Once inside, they found 65 marijuana plants, as well as various materials for their cultivation and care, such as 4 mercury lamps, 2 fans and fertilizer.

F.S. was then explained that he was committing an alleged crime against public health, consisting of the cultivation and production of drugs, for which he was arrested by the agents, who in turn seized the plants.

The detainee, together with the seized effects, has been placed at the disposal of the corresponding Court in charge of Arrecife.
