National Police agents have arrested in Arrecife three men, between 32 and 47 years of age, as alleged perpetrators of a crime of drug trafficking and membership of a criminal organization. The judge ordered the imprisonment of two of them and the third was released with charges.
The arrested were part of a criminal organization that operated between the Canary Island and Portugal. This being the country to which they fled in 2022, not being able to be arrested then by the police investigators, continuing with the illicit activity from the referred country.
In the month of July of the current year, the National Police became aware that the fugitives had returned to the island of Lanzarote, so a police operation was arranged for their location and detention.
The result of the investigations was positive, so it was possible to locate and arrest them in Arrecife, as well as confirm that the head of the organization used two commercial premises in a neighborhood of the capital of Lanzarote as points of distribution and sale of narcotic substances.
In the course of the investigation carried out by the National Police during the current year, an individual is arrested who was trying to introduce the narcotic substance into the island of Conejera by ingesting it in the form of capsules to hinder its detection.
Radiological tests determined that he was carrying said substance inside his body, being admitted to the Hospital until the expulsion of its entirety.
In the set of both operations have been seized 2.5 kilograms of cocaine, 290 grams of heroin, 217 grams of hashish and 4,810 euros in cash.
Therefore, the three men were arrested as alleged perpetrators of a crime of drug trafficking and membership of a criminal organization, being placed at the disposal of the competent Judicial Authority, decreeing the immediate imprisonment of two of them, the third being released with charges.
