The fire service of the firefighters was in the Titerroy neighborhood of Arrecife extinguishing the fire of a container, when, around 01.10 hours they received the notice that the roof of a house had collapsed on Timbayba Street (a few meters from where they were). They quickly approached the scene, most of them running given the proximity of the place. Once there, they confirmed that the roof of one of the rooms of the house had collapsed and there was a boy trapped.

When the fire team began to clear the room, about ten square meters, they found the lifeless body of a 38-year-old young man, native of Arrecife. "He presented several traumatic brain injuries and in the thorax and when trying to breathe he had ingested sand," commented Esteban García, manager of the Security and Emergency Consortium. The roof collapsed while the young man was sleeping. In the home were also the mother and cousin of the deceased, but neither of them suffered damage, except for "a small cut in one of the legs of the young man when trying to reach the area of debris to help his cousin, but he was immediately removed from the area," explained Esteban García.

State of the house

What happened in this house has an explanation, since "the house is in very bad condition, it is neglected, with cracks in the roof. It had to be propped up because it was expected that there could be another collapse of the roofs of the adjoining rooms," said the manager of the Security and Emergency Consortium.

Apparently the lady had asked for help to fix the house given the bad condition in which it was. However, this editorial staff has learned that no rehabilitation request had been officially registered in the town hall.
