The Local Police of Teguise proceeded this Wednesday to seize 13 dogs that were in a construction in Guatiza "without permission" and that also "did not have the sanitary and safety conditions" for the animals, according to confirmed the Councilor for Animal Welfare, Sara Bermúdez.

It was the animal protection society Sara who reported the events both to Seprona and to the Local Police, after learning a week ago of "some kennels built overnight" next to the Guatiza gas station, and that "someone was filling them with dogs", mostly Siberian huskies and "also some lobo herreño".

After that, its president, Obelesa Hernández, states that they moved to the area, where they were able to verify that "the animals were not completely well due to their fur" and that "they were without shade, without food and with little water". Thus, in addition to filing the complaint, they began to "investigate to see who the animals could belong to".

Then, she points out that they were able to find out that "these animals have been going through many dog daycares on the island" leaving their owner with "very important debts".

"Also, through social networks, we discovered that the lady responsible for the dogs has had problems with animals in other places outside of Lanzarote, even outside of Spain," they have stated from the shelter, from where they affirm that "they contacted" Sara "lawyers from Chile" for complaints of "breeding grounds in poor conditions" in this country.

Sanctions will be processed against the owner

"The Police, who have been coordinating with Seprona, had been going for several days, but the owner put dogs in and took them out, until they found 13 and proceeded to seize them yesterday," said the Councilor for Animal Welfare of Teguise, Sara Bermúdez. According to the councilor, "apparently they are in good health", although they are waiting for the veterinarian to evaluate them and issue a report.

Likewise, the councilor has confirmed that the corresponding sanctions will be processed against the owner of the animals, both for their condition and for the construction. "The dogs had no shade and were very close to the road, so they could escape and be run over," said the councilor. And, she affirms that the blocks of the construction in which they were, were "loose".
