The Yaiza City Council has programmed fifty activities for the Christmas and Kings holidays including concerts, street markets, folklore, recreational days, parades, workshops, recitals, parades and stage performances.
Although the municipality already celebrated the Christmas lighting ceremony at the end of November with high participation of residents and visitors in Playa Blanca, it will be this Friday, December 14, at 7:00 p.m., when it will inaugurate next to the Yaiza House of Culture the Nativity scene "most traditional and visited in Lanzarote".
The Yaiza folklore school and the Rubicón Folkloric Group have been invited to the inauguration, who will perform together with an "exquisite" repertoire according to the season, joined by the Rancho de Pascua de Yaiza, a musical institution that is already 39 years old, enlivening the Christmas festivities in the south of Lanzarote.
Music, street market and Canine Christmas
The Plaza de los Remedios de Yaiza will host a promising Christmas market on Sunday, December 16, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a diversity of proposals: mats, children's workshops and performances by the Gaida Folkloric Group and the Pal' Porrón band. Music has another important event on the same Sunday 16 in the church of Los Remedios, where the Yaiza Choir and the Vulcania Choir will sing at 12:45 noon.
Also on Sunday the 16th, in the Plaza de los Remedios, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Yaiza will celebrate its Canine Christmas. The program includes an awareness talk on responsible pet ownership, a children's workshop, stories from adoption and foster families, awards ceremony for the photography contest, presentation of pets and prize raffles.
Sporting events
Sport in Yaiza joins the December celebrations with two attractive events in Playa Blanca. The first is the Latin sailing regatta this Saturday the 15th, at 12:00 noon, organized in memory of Marcial Martín 'El Rabuo', a pioneer in Latin sailing competition in Playa Blanca. Eleven boats from Lanzarote have confirmed, three of them from the host municipality, Playa Blanca, Playa Dorada and Bernasan.
The second sporting event is on Sunday, December 30, at 10:00 a.m., in the Solidarity Race that runs along the southern promenade with a meeting point at Playa Dorada. The race offers distances adapted to promote participation among the little ones. The proceeds from registrations (10 euros per person) are destined to the social mission of the NGOs Creciendo Yaiza and AsperCan. The Yaiza City Council reminds that its entire Christmas program can be consulted on its website.
