The municipality of Yaiza has celebrated Canary Islands Day with numerous performances and typical tastings of the archipelago this weekend in Playa Blanca, with the aim of "representing the exaltation of the land and the values of the eight islands".

The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, wanted to highlight "the determination of all the people who share the love for our Archipelago, demonstrating it every day with their dedication and commitment, the Canarians by birth and our neighbors who, being from other regions of Spain or corners of the world, feel this land as their own and give their lives for it as we all do who were born in the Fortunate Islands".

The events were inaugurated on Saturday night in the Plaza de Los Remedios de Yaiza, with the performances of the Pal' Porrón, Labradores and Son de Mar parrandas. In addition, people could also taste typical delicacies such as Canarian sancocho, wine and gofio, in an environment decorated with traditional elements. During the event, the mayor of the municipality joined the popular dance remembering his time with the Agrupación Folklórica Rubicón.

The following day, the day began with the institutional flag-raising ceremony by Óscar Noda and the councilors, enlivened by the street concert of the Yaiza Municipal Band. Hours later, the party moved to the town's beach for the sports exhibition of boys and girls from the Club de Lucha Unión Sur Yaiza quarry, led by a historic Club member such as coach Tomás Quesada.

Finally, the Plaza del Carmen hosted the end of the celebrations, with the toque and dance group of the Agrupación Folklórica Rubicón and the performance of the Trasmallo de Fuerteventura parranda, with a show of Canarian folklore, while the public enjoyed an enyesque with typical dishes.

Activities were also offered for children and adults such as camel rides along Papagayo Avenue, as a reminder of the importance of this sustainable activity in the Timanafaya National Park.

For his part, the Councilor for Festivities of Yaiza, Javier Camacho, wanted to thank "the municipal staff for their work and the participation of all the artistic groups, camel drivers, Canarian wrestling group led by Tomás Quesada, lighting and sound technicians and all the people who made possible two days of endearing fraternization enjoyed by people of all ages and different nationalities".
