The Arrecife City Council, presided over by Yonathan de León, through the Department of Festivities, directed by Echedey Eugenio, celebrated on the night of this Wednesday, February 7, the exhibition of troupes of the Arrecife Carnival 2024; one of the most spectacular events of these festivities.
The show, presented by Paco Robayna on stage and Leandro Martín in the backstage, began with the screening of the video clip of the song “Escalera de Colores” by Rosana Arbelo and Efecto Pasillo, which this morning was presented by the capital's Consistory within the events commemorating the 225th anniversary of the municipality of Arrecife.
Next, the renowned and award-winning batucada of Los Villapipol, and two of the classic characters of the Arrecife carnival, Charlot and La vieja del perejil, were in charge of giving way to the five participating groups.
300 dancers from Yaiseros, Sur Caliente, Timanfeiros, Cumbacheros and Guaracheros filled the Agramar fairgrounds with rhythm, joy, light and color with their striking costumes and choreographies.
A truly impressive and energy-packed show in which the feather costumes and movements of the different dance bodies made the audience vibrate.
The first troupe to perform was “Los Yaiseros”, from Yaiza, who after their absence in the last edition, returned this year to the Arrecife Carnival with the show and allegory entitled “La vie en rose”.
The group, founded in 2014, has 40 members and is chaired by Javier Jiménez. Their choreographer is Ruimán Medina, the designer Manuel Camejo and the batucada director, Cristian Jiménez.
The next to perform were the 52 members of “Sur Caliente”. The Tinerfeña group founded in 1999 celebrates its silver anniversary this year and is chaired by Pedro Vizcaíno, who is also the designer of the fantasy they wear on this 25th anniversary and which is entitled “Although it is a birthday it will never be a cold anniversary”. With Borja Hernández on percussion, “Sur Caliente” made the public enjoy the show “25 years with you” and the choreographies of Yonay Alonso.
The third troupe to take the stage was “Timanfeiros”. The group founded in 1997 in the southern town of Uga (Yaiza) arrived with its show “Gloria Tropical” and wearing a fantastic design by Isidro Castellano, with the fantasy called “Vida”.
The percussion and voices of its 69 members, presided over by Luis Martín, resonated throughout the fairgrounds, to the rhythm of the choreography of Jonathan Gutiérrez and the musical direction of Willy Morales.
In fourth place, the “Cumbacheros” troupe wasted energy with their show “Dare to dream” and the allegory of the same name, by Borja Abreu, which their 69 members wore.
The group, founded in 2012 in Tahíche (Teguise), is chaired by Sergio Niz, who also holds the role of choreographer, and is musically directed by Gesury García.
The grand finale of the Arrecife Carnival 2024 troupe exhibition was the performance of “Guaracheros”. 65 members on stage who finished off a night full of rhythm with the show “It is measured in applause. Don't treat these harlequins like clowns”
Founded in 1998 (Tías) and chaired by Verónica Rueda, the Guaracheros moved to the rhythm of the choreographies designed by Diego Rueda and to the sound marked by the batucada directed by Alejandro Tejera, and wore a fantasy called “Everything is illusion”, designed by Kilian Betancort.
After the performance of the last troupe, the mayor, Yonathan de León, and the Councilor for Festivities, Echedey Eugenio, presented the directors of each troupe with a plaque in gratitude for their participation.
