The Hermes international congress “Communication, audiovisual media and analysis in Spain and Latin America” began this Wednesday at the Municipal Theater of Tías with the presentation of 13 papers and with the inaugural conference by Jairo López, who offered a story-like tour of Canarian cinematography with filmmakers, producers and the Audiovisual Cluster of the Canary Islands.
Just before this conference, the congress was formally inaugurated by one of its directors, Juan Carlos Suárez, the technical secretary of the congress, Eva Hernández, the director of the Lanzarote Film Festival, Javier Fuentes, and the mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz. Cruz Saavedra wished them success while highlighting the solidity of the presentations, “which make visible that capacity of the human being to ask ourselves about reality.”

This meeting of academics, researchers and communication professionals has participants from 125 universities in 19 countries and hosts two hundred communication proposals between face-to-face and online. Its involvement with the immediate environment of the Canary Islands, Lanzarote and Tías is manifested in its programming and in the collaboration of local associations and administrations, according to the City Council.

The congress will continue this Thursday with about thirty face-to-face interventions divided between the Municipal Theater and the Salón Indieras de Tías, and is completed with a parallel activity (Science in the street), which took place this Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. and will also take place at 2:00 p.m. this Thursday on Avenida de las Playas in Puerto del Carmen. In it, some speakers will exchange knowledge and impressions with people who come to the area, near the tourist information kiosk.
