The Cabildo of Lanzarote presented this Tuesday the catalog of promotional images of the 35th Lanzarote Craft Fair, a cultural event of regional character promoted by the Institution and that will be held from September 10 to 15, 2024.

The Island Area of Crafts has designed the posters, betting this time to show society the most traditional aspects of our cultural heritage through a selection of revealing historical photos extracted from the photographic archive of Memoria Digital de Lanzarote, provided by the owners of the snapshots used.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, together with the councilors of Culture and Crafts, Jesús Machín Tavío and Aroa Revelo, respectively, publicly showed some of the pieces of this promotional collection.

During his speech, Oswaldo Betancort thanked Memoria Digital de Lanzarote for its "valuable collaboration" documentary, and encouraged to continue "designing with care" everything related to the organization of this important event with the artisan trade of the Canary Islands.

Remember that the central theme of this year focuses on the crafts of vegetable fibers, highlighting techniques and traditions that have endured over time. And so, as a novelty, a series of posters have been created with different images that show the use of artisan pieces in different areas, both in the work of the field and in the sea, photos that evoke the essence of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, showing the link between the past and the present, highlighting the use in the daily life of families of pieces made with vegetable fibers.

On the other hand, as an advance on the keys of the 35th Lanzarote Craft Fair, the councilor Jesús Machín has detailed that "this will be an edition to remember, marked by the cultural diversity of Macaronesia since we will have artisans from Azores, Madeira and Cape Verde".

A regional event with tradition

The Lanzarote Craft Fair is the meeting of artisans with more tradition of the Island and one of the most relevant fairs of the Canary Islands. This commitment to traditional and contemporary crafts has managed to consolidate, year after year, a meeting place committed to the recovery of trades and customs that identify our Islands, always with an eye on the future without forgetting innovation along with technological advances that provide a strategic area of artisan production.

The event takes place in Mancha Blanca (Tinajo) since 1989. The fairground has more than a hundred exhibition stands distributed among artisans from Lanzarote, the Canary Islands and invited countries, along with others from public institutions, City Councils and Cabildos, cultural groups and departments of the Cabildo of Lanzarote itself, organizer of this meeting through the Areas of Culture and Crafts.

Among the trades of the most faithful artisans to the event we find potters, ceramists, carpenters, basket makers, hatters, leather workers, shoemakers, crocheters, perfumers, jewelers, miniaturists, traditional costume makers, knife makers, cigar makers and stonecutters, among others. The fair always has a select and varied representation of traditional and contemporary crafts from the rest of the Canary Archipelago.

"The 35th Lanzarote Craft Fair will again have a wide program of activities, workshops, demonstrations, wine and cheese tastings, parrandas and children's area. All of them with free access and free", explained the councilor Aroa Revelo.
